My first blog post: New Year’s Eve 2019!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I wanted to start this blog to keep a collection of memories that my friends and family could read. (Side note – if you don’t know me, go check out my About page!) I’ve tried many forms of memory collection – traditional pen and paper journaling, a video every day, bullet journaling, typing out general things I did on a day of travel in the notes of my phone, etc, but I realized how much I love reading other people’s blogs and then thought hey maybe I could do that!

I had six New Year’s Resolutions this year:

  1. Give more time to making jewelry, my favorite hobby! You can check out my work at instagram.com/weedlerockjewelry
  2. Read more books for pleasure.
  3. Exercise at least 4 times a week.
  4. Focus on the positive. Keep a bullet point journal that I write positive things in each week.
  5. Actually back up my data every month. I struggle with this one haha even though it’s so bad if you don’t! I had laptop problems mid-December and thought I had lost everything – thankfully I didn’t!
  6. START A BLOG!!!

As you can see, it took me a week to get to my 6th resolution. Starting a blog sounded easy, but it’s actually really overwhelming! There are many hosts to choose from and so many New Year’s sales and you’re just thinking am I getting scammed?? Well, I ultimately chose Bluehost and am hoping for the best.

Now to what this post is mainly about: New Year’s Eve! I’ve been blessed with a tight-knit group of high school friends that still keeps in touch despite all of us living in different places and doing different things i.e. grad school, working in the real adult world, Peace Corps, you name it. We always do something for NYE every year, and this year I hosted a party at my house. It was perfect because I have a room that my roommate and I use for storage, so we just converted the space for the party and moved all the other stuff into the garage temporarily. Of course we had to make a fantastic photo wall for the occasion:

Twirling the streamers adds a nice depth!
some of my high school friends! not everyone made the pic 🙁
friends from college came too 🙂

Here are some other pics from during the day to see how we decorated the room. The lighting is a little sad in the room hence why we use it for storage mostly.

always have to have hats and noise makers!

Another fun part of the night was a dinner we actually had before my party at my friend’s mom’s house! Her mom made us Venezuelan food – including arepas. So yummy!!!

my plate – I added butter, potato salad, pork, and avocado yummmm
the spread

The party was super fun, and 2020 has gotten off to a great start. The harsh reality of going back to grad school next Monday is setting in… In the meantime, I’m trying to finish my to-dos and stay accountable on my resolutions. I’m running a half marathon this January and also another one in March, so I’m off to go on a run. Thanks for reading!
