Conquering the Houston half marathon!

This weekend was the Houston half marathon – an event I had been mostly looking forward to/partially dreading for a while! I had run two half marathons in the past – the Houston half in 2013 and the Rhythm and Blues half in 2016. I haven’t run further than 13.1 miles since 2016, so this was a test if I still have it. Spoiler alert: I survived!

Post-race with the roommate/my running buddy!

The Houston marathon always falls on MLK weekend, but you’re never sure how the weather will be (classic Houston). Back when I ran it in 2013, it was hailing the day of the race. I ran the majority of it in a black trash bag! The weather had been really gloomy and rainy all week, so it was amazing that the sun came out and we had cool, crisp weather today.

Deep back in the corral as the sun was rising around 7 am! It took about 25 minutes from the official start until we got to actually start running.
Our friend Jenny came to cheer us on about halfway through and ended up running about a mile of it with us! She really helped boost morale!! (and took this super blurry selfie)
Jake was the MVP who came to George R. Brown at the end of the race to drive me home! Except the car was kind of far and we ended up having to uber to it because my legs were so dead hahaha I also had to steal some of his layers. Again MVP award!!!

Since this weekend included running, that meant there also had to be a lot of eating. My brother is in town visiting, so we’ve been going out to eat a lot. Tonight we ate dinner at Politan Row, a relatively new food hall in Rice Village.

I got the Momo’s chicken ramen! It was from a Japanese-Peruvian fusion stall. And an Aperol spritz 🙂

I’ve been super spoiled this weekend with food – my roommate’s mom also ran the half marathon and got into town for it on Friday. She took us to dinner Friday night at Hugo’s. So delicious!

scallops yum!!!

This weekend has been great! And I don’t have school on Monday, which means tomorrow will be full of catching up on homework and meal prepping (haven’t cooked at home at all this weekend haha). And watching the Bachelor tomorrow … I’ve never watched it before until this season and now I get what all the hype is about. Anyways, thanks for reading and have a great week!
