Memorial Day Weekend in Boston!

I know I’m still day dreaming of time off from work that happened over a week ago. Jake and I both were able to take some additional time off and drive up to Boston for Jake’s older brother’s graduation from law school! It was such a nice time, and although New England got hit with some very wet, cold weather over the holiday weekend, the weather held itself together for the outdoor grad ceremony that took place. The weather up here has been so bipolar lately – this past weekend was 90 degrees, and the weekend before was in the 40s. Feels like Texas weather swings haha.

Jake’s family so kindly let me participate in all the graduation festivities. It was great seeing everyone, especially now that we are all vaccinated! I’ll include some photos I took along the trip.

There was tons of delicious food that was consumed on this trip. For the celebratory brunch the morning after graduation, we went to this restaurant called Russell House Tavern. Many items from the menu were ordered.

The Saturday was mostly spent hanging out indoors at the hotel and various coffee shops, as the weather got very rainy and chilly that day. I did walk around MIT in the morning just to explore a little bit, and I only encountered a few very disciplined, wet runners along my walk. My photo reserve is pretty minimal from this day. We all still had lots of fun hanging out all together!

On Sunday morning after everyone parted ways, Jake and I spent one more night near the North End in Boston before concluding the trip. We got brunch with one of my good friends from high school and a couple of her friends to start off the extremely rainy day. I had been to Boston with my mom during my junior year of high school spring break and have very distinctive memories of waiting in line to eat dinner at Giacomo’s, buying cannolis from Mike’s Pastry and eating them in our hotel room while watching the movie Frozen for the first time ever. I basically had Jake recreate this experience with me, as we stayed in the same hotel, ate dinner at Giacomo’s, bought cannolis after and just replaced Frozen with Brooklyn 99. It was amazing haha. Mom – we got to do this again sometime!

We did stop at Union Oyster House for a chunk of time to hang out and try some oysters (and to also try to take a break from being outside) because my plans of sight seeing were scrapped, as the weather did not cooperate.

Yes, this is the second photo of oysters on this one blog post

After hopping around a couple more places in the North End, we finally got ourselves in line for Giacomo’s. This place doesn’t take reservations and is cash only. It’s really a gem. You don’t go here to get good service – you can definitely tell they want to give your table to the next customer waiting outside. And still the people come and wait in line because that’s just how good it is!

We concluded the night with a visit to Mike’s Pastry where we ordered way too many cannolis. We retired early and watched lots of Brooklyn 99 and the series finale of Mare of Easttown which has SUCH a twist. Highly recommend this show if you haven’t seen it!

It was a great visit. Congratulations to the grad!! Thank you again Jake’s family <3 <3

Have a nice rest of your week xo.

  • So jealous of you re-living part of that delightful trip so many years ago! The food shots had my stomach growling…
Once again Boston delivered challenging weather, but you powered through it and had a good time.
    My Congrats to the Grad!
