A fun weekend post midterms week!

It’s been a little while since I wrote a post, mostly because my life has consisted of studying and extreme meal prepping the last few weeks. But I finished with midterms this past Friday morning, and I’ve been up to some more exciting things since.

On Friday afternoon, the social chairs of my masters program had a happy hour for us at Holman Draft Hall (a bar in Midtown), and it was super fun! They have a great happy hour drink selection, and the whole place is super cute.

This weekend was two of my high school friends’ birthdays. They both live here now post-college, so they had a joint celebration (Alex had her birthday on Friday, and Sydney’s was on Saturday). It was fun being all together since we had been apart the past four years. I have been bad at taking photos of stuff I’ve been up to (and of course took no photos of all of us together) which is also part of why I haven’t posted a new blog post in a while.

On Saturday morning, I picked up my race packet with Jake for a 10K we’re doing next weekend. After that, I went to brunch with Jenny, Georgia, and Sara – all people I have lived with in college! We went to The Rustic in downtown, and it is such a lively place to get brunch, especially during rodeo season. It’s a super Texas-ey place. They had a live band performing, and the place was packed! But it’s also HUGE, and we got a table right away. They do family style brunch, and it is such a good deal for the amount of food you get ($16.95 each, and we had leftovers). This is the moment I realized I should take photos and write a blog post about my weekend, so here you go haha.

Jenny has that wide angle lens that captured our whole spread! Peep Georgia and me in the background (had to crop our derpy faces haha)
Sara and Jenny! And grapefruit mimosas!
A not so great shot, but this was the live band set up

We went shopping afterwards at Crossroads, and all of us did some damage! I got a couple new shirts for spring and a lavender Kate Spade purse that I’m suppppperrr excited to carry! It was so much cheaper buying it secondhand, and it’s in fantastic condition. After shopping, I went home to nap and hide from Jenny who I had promised to work out with. We’ve been good about meeting up at our university’s gym and doing long workouts on Saturday afternoons, but I was so sleepy from our brunch. In the end, I napped and the accountability kicked in and I went to meet Jenny at the gym for a late workout. It was weird being at the gym around 7/8 pm on Saturday because it was so deserted (which was nice for us!). We then went to HEB and got grocery store sushi. Ideal Saturday!

On Sunday, I met up with Jackie, who I visited in LA last month. She was in town to wedding dress shop for her sister, so she didn’t have a lot of free time to spare! We just went on a walk to a nearby coffee shop and got to catch up a little bit which was nice. Hi Jackie if you’re reading this.

Later, I went to the Heights with Georgia and Jake to meet up with our friends Maggie and Braden. We got lunch at Taqo Mexican Kitchen, and it was delicious! I got the chicken al pastor taco that had pineapple along with a side of elote. They have nice outdoor seating, and the weather yesterday was perfect for sitting outside. We went to Redbud Gallery nearby afterwards to listen to the Houston artist Patrick Renner speak about his latest work. He makes sculptures out of found objects. He did a piece along Montrose Boulevard and a metal structure in downtown that you would recognize if you were from Houston. Here’s a little peak of what we got to see:

Jake and I ran 5 miles afterwards, and it was nice because we got to be out around 6/7 pm and still have light out thanks to Spring Forward. I guess the lost hour of sleep was worth it… Post-run we watched a movie on Netflix and ate Star pizza (so we cancelled out the run with the amount of calories consumed after). Now it’s time for school! Happy Monday!
