Hello hello! I have come down with a bad cold since venturing back into the world, and I have been taking this weekend to rest and watch 2 seasons of Modern Family. I am feeling much better today, but wow, I hadn’t been this sick in over a year with quarantine and work from home. I had to dig in the bathroom cabinets to see if I even still owned Mucinex (I did).
The past couple months have been so busy and so fun, and I cannot believe it is August! Since getting vaccinated, I have had plans every weekend. It’s been a blast getting to see friends I haven’t seen or hugged in over a year. This weekend’s cold was probably deserved from the go go go nature of life I have been doing, and I’m grateful to just have a weekend to rest and get lots of sleep. We just finished our big deadline at work last week, and I have virtual training this upcoming week which should be relatively light in comparison to the last couple weeks. I am very much looking forward to that!
I have a large photo dump to do, and thought I would just say the highlights of what I’ve been up to, in order of the events!
1. Sara visited CT/NYC in early June for a long weekend. We hung out in CT a little bit but spent most of our time in NYC because she was apartment hunting (and was successful)! She now only lives an hour ish away 🙂 We got to see Jenny too over the weekend!
2. Just some general hanging out with Jake in CT! These are miscellaneous photos throughout June. One big highlight is we celebrated Jake’s birthday. On the Saturday of his actual birthday, we ate out for a fancy lunch, went to a small local museum in the town next to us, and cooked salmon at home for dinner and ate a homemade chocolate cake. On Sunday, we finally went to the beach with the permit I had bought way back in May – it was so beautiful (and only 10 minutes away)!
3. I was lucky with still having the flexibility of work from home to go back to Houston for a week and a half and see all my friends and family there. It was so nice to see everyone! But geez was it hot in comparison to up here.
4. This isn’t really a “highlight,” but I did experience the flooding up here. It was crazy! I, being from Houston, was unphased by the flash flood warnings and amount anticipated. However, the northeast is not well-equipped for flooding, and our basement garage filled with water (my car is fine luckily!!), and our building lost power for 12 hours. Thankfully, I have a sweet friend nearby who did have power and let take refuge in her apartment the whole time.
My friend nearby is also the owner of the dog I watched back in April, which I wrote about on one of my previous posts. She got her friends these hilarious sandals that look like Tumi.
5. That same weekend, Jake got back to town, and we got to see our friends Patrick and Alissa in town in NYC. We went to a place called Houston Hall, but they pronounce it house-ton up here… classic Northeast lol
6. Jamie visited NYC!! Jenny and her parents so graciously let us spend the weekend at their apartment. It was so fun having us all together again (we were roommates in college), but WE MISSED YOU SO MUCH GEORGIA. We’ll have to do a trip the 4 of us soon <3 The weekend consisted of lots of eating and shopping, and a Sunday morning walk in Central Park followed by dim sum. Please come back sooooon Jamie!!
7. We are finally to the last one I promise haha! Jackie and Mackenzie visited me in CT last weekend, and we also went to NYC, as we met up with some of Mackenzie’s friends from college visiting for the weekend as well. Janany planned a super fun weekend for the group of 6 of us, including pasta brunch and going to a show at Comedy Central.
This summer has gone by so quickly, but it’s also not over yet! Some things I’m looking forward to:
- I just ordered a Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer (5 quart) in lavender cream, and I’m elated. I can’t wait to bake something and use it for the mixing. The best part is I paid for 80% of it with gift cards mwahaha
- Jake and I are road tripping to Maine, staring in Portland and ending in Bar Harbor by Acadia National Park, later this month. I have never been to Maine, and now feels like the perfect chance being a drivable distance away. I’m excited to share photos and stories from that trip on here.
- My childhood best friend just moved to NYC, so I will get to see her more often.
- My brother is visiting Labor Day weekend! We will spend most time hanging out in CT, and take a visit to Lake Compounce, America’s oldest continuously operating amusement park. We’ll also have to go to NYC for the day to do obligatory food tastings, like Levain Bakery and anything else he requests.
I don’t have any big plans before our trip to Maine later this month, and I’m so glad to just have some to relax and recharge (and get over this cold). I hope you all are well and enjoying your summers! Thanks so much for reading <3 xo.
So busy! Loved catching up and seeing the photos, especially the kayak one!
