Happy holiday weekend! My brother Zach visited Jake and me in Brooklyn, and we did a lot of exploring, walking and eating. Including some highlights from each day below:
Friday, September 2
We started off the day with some bagels from a place near the apartment. Then we got around to head over to the Met! We explored for a couple hours, but that place is expansive, so definitely reason to go back.
Afterwards, we got some bento box lunches at a little Japanese place on the Upper East Side before doing a long (unintentionally) stroll through Central Park.
After the Central Park pilgrimage, we decided just to cook some dinner at home. Thanks to Whole Foods sales, we ended up doing a charcuterie board and steaks!
Saturday, September 3
On this day, we slept in again and then walked around the nearby farmers’ market a little bit before getting lunch at Greenpoint Fish and Lobster Co. I had been wanting to go to this place for a while, and it did not disappoint. All three of us got lobster rolls with butter.
There is a place called Steve’s that is known for their key lime pies, but they are all the way in Red Hook, which is quite a ways from us. This restaurant happened to have Steve’s key lime pie though, which we of course ordered!
After lunch, we strolled around Williamsburg a bit before heading back to chill at the apartment and get ready for dinner.
We got some beers at Talea Brewery before getting dinner at Peruvian fusion place called Llama Inn. All things ordered were great, and photos from that are minimal. We topped off the night with drinks at a distillery nearby and a classic NY late night slice of pizza. T’was fun!
Sunday, September 4
We woke up and indulged Zach in some dim sum from Jing Fong in Chinatown, where I also took no photos. Afterwards, the three of us headed separate ways – Jake and I both had friends in town visiting and Zach just wanted to chill at the apartment before our oyster happy hour.
We got the happy hour at a place called Upstate in the East Village, and the happy hour turned into dinner. I would recommend this place – the happy hour is very affordable (6 oysters + one craft beer for $12, or add on wine instead of beer for $16). Even the entrees themselves were good portion sizes and averaged about $20, which is good for NYC!
At this point, we were pretty tired and just headed back to the apartment to enjoy sunset on the roof.
Monday, September 5 (today!)
We are all tired from our whirlwind weekend today. Zach made steak and eggs for breakfast from our Friday leftovers, and the three of us hit the gym afterwards followed by a stroll through the neighborhood to do a little shopping and pick up groceries for the Greek lemon chicken soup we are making tonight.
Right now, we are watching (and I’m mutitasking by blogging) the Tiafoe vs. Nadal match at the U.S. Open on ESPN. Jake and I actually got to go to the U.S. Open last week which was awesome! We saw Jack Draper win against Auger Aliassime.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! xo.
Love hearing about this whirlwind of activities and dining ☺️
